License plate recognition for homeowners associations

SmartLotIQ turns any IP-based ALPR camera into a real-time access decision point. Cameras read plates, SmartLotIQ checks for valid passes or resident vehicles, and the gate opens — or doesn't — based on rules your community sets.

Supported camera platforms

  • Genetec AutoVu — enterprise-grade, common in larger master-planned communities.
  • Vigilant Solutions / Motorola — widely deployed at gated luxury communities.
  • Rekor Edge — popular for retrofits because it can run on existing IP cameras.
  • Flock Safety — common for community-wide perimeter coverage.
  • Generic ONVIF/RTSP cameras with the SmartLotIQ on-prem reader.

How a plate read becomes an access decision

Vehicle approaches the gate. Camera reads the plate, sends it via webhook to SmartLotIQ. SmartLotIQ checks: is this a known resident vehicle, is there an active guest pass for this plate, is this plate on the community watchlist. The decision is returned and logged. End-to-end latency under 200 ms.

The plate watchlist

Every property has its own private plate watchlist with three severity levels: info (just log and notify), warn (let the vehicle in but trigger alert with photo), ban (refuse entry and notify security).

Privacy and data retention

Plate reads are stored with per-property isolation. Reads default to a 90-day retention window and can be reduced as low as 14 days. The platform never shares plate data with law enforcement or commercial third parties.
